Shopping & Services BEST ECO-FRIENDLY BUSINESS Habitat for Humanity Re-Store 4230 Gigling Road, Seaside (831) 272-4830, habitatmontereybay.com With thousands of costumes, fabrics and scraps transformed into new outfits every year, traveling circuses need to find creative ways to recycle, upcycle and turn their old things into something new. It’s a skill performers become rather good at when they travel in compact caravans, with little space for anything beyond the necessary. What makes the world go ’round are the places that collect, store and display those once-used items, giving them a chance to become someone else’s costume, home item or treasure. That’s what Habitat for Humanity does at its two ReStore locations, in Seaside and Watsonville, where donated goods across Monterey County get a second act. BEST NEW BUSINESS OF 2026 Seaside Ace Hardware 1130 Fremont Blvd., Seaside (831) 215-6242, acehardware.com Seaside Ace Hardware is a welcomed addition, filling a space that has struggled to find the right business since Hollywood Video was a thing. They bring the perfect combination of the resources of the big guys and the one-on-one expertise and tips of your neighborhood hardware shop. Need paint or tools, they have it. Need to sharpen the sword-swallower’s blade? They can help. A pie for the clown act? Believe it or not, yes. There is a freezer of pies. Most importantly, there is plenty of experience in the building.
