After artist visits, students receive a free ticket to a CMMB concert—often their first live concert and experience at a venue like Sunset Center. “The Catalyst masterclass was helpful and insightful. This nonprofit seeks to elevate the profile of the Big Sur artistic community, an area celebrated for its natural beauty but with a too-often overlooked arts community. “As a Carmel native and artist who made a career in the arts, design and architecture, I cannot overstate the impact local artists such as Emile Norman had on my life’s trajectory. I recognize very deeply how securing that legacy for generations to come is crucial. In addition to the Studio, Hijos del Sol offers a variety of artistic programs from mural installations to apprenticeships and comprehensive arts education for classrooms, after-school programs and community workshops. “Hijos del Sol is a special place where I’m able to express my thoughts and feelings through art.
