John Abizaid United States Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (2019-2021) Commander, United States Central Command (2003-2007) General John Abizaid was responsible for political-military strategy to advance U.S. national policy goals in the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and Central Asia. As Commander CENTCOM, he was responsible for all military operations and activities in twenty-seven nations. He is widely considered an expert in the field of Middle Eastern Affairs. He is Chair Emeritus of the Middle East Institute’s Board of Governors. In May, 2007, he was named the first Annenberg Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University.
