ALISAL CENTER FOR THE FINE ARTS Year Founded: 1986 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 9 paid, 50 volunteers Budget: $250,000 (831) 758-5715 alisalfinearts.org BIG IDEA: The Alisal Center for the Fine Arts (ACFA) describes itself as a youth-powered production house. ACFA brings youth and college interns together to create original, bilingual performances inspired by East Salinas community stories. Donations to this Big Idea will help ACFA expand its digital media training and deepen instruction in music, dance, visual art, baile folklórico and theater. More than 300 students compose, choreograph and collaborate in free ACFA programming each year. “I like folklórico because of the community. They’re very welcoming and it’s a way to de-stress and clear my head. When I first started, I was so nervous. I have slowly seen myself become more confident over the years. I feel joy doing it.” -Cristal N., 13 ARIEL THEATRICAL Year Founded: 1989 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 12 paid, 125 volunteers Budget: $623,673 (831) 775-0976 arieltheatrical.org BIG IDEA: Young thespians with ARIEL Theatrical sing, dance and act year-round, often on the same stage as their parents did decades earlier. This nonprofit attributes its success to kids working together in a complex team, leading them to make magic onstage (and backstage as well). While drama is a priority, the emphasis on personal integrity, leadership and respect are the foundations of ARIEL’s Big Idea. Donors can help support this youth development and theater program, including training 20 youth leaders and hiring four older teens as summer group leaders. “ARIEL taught me invaluable lessons about patience, empathy and teamwork. Leading younger children through rehearsals and performances required me to communicate clearly and compassionately. The inclusive, positive environment at ARIEL reshaped my worldview by highlighting the profound impact a supportive community can have on a young person’s confidence and growth.” -Jake McTighe, 18 BAY VIEW ACADEMY Year Founded: 2011 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 57 paid, 150 volunteers Budget: $8,098,744 (831) 717-4630 bayview-academy.org BIG IDEA: Bay View Academy’s youngest learners can spend more than nine hours a day in their classrooms. To help these 5-year-olds thrive at school, they have a Big Idea: Bay View is seeking donations to enhance both its indoor and outdoor learning spaces. Phase one would add shaded outdoor classrooms, flexible seating areas and soft play spaces, with future plans to expand age-appropriate learning spaces for upper grades. These innovative amenities promote safe and engaging areas for learning, creativity and rest. 80 Monterey County GIVES! 2025 mcgives.com EDUCATION & YOUTH DONATE ONLINE MCGIVES.COM BOB HOOVER ACADEMY Year Founded: 2014 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 4 paid, 5 volunteers Budget: $450,000 (831) 785-7128 bobhooveracademy.org BIG IDEA: Bob Hoover Academy has a proven record of students learning to fly airplanes while earning a high school diploma—including a 100-percent graduation rate last year. Donations will help expand this Big Idea to include a new aviation maintenance program, where students will learn the ins and outs on their own CubCrafter airplane build project. Support also helps Bob Hoover Academy (BHA) grow its lunch and driver’s training programs and increase field trips. “The Bob Hoover Academy has changed my life forever. Prior to attending, I had no experience flying and a poor academic record. As a BHA student, I was the president of the student council, I graduated with a high GPA and passed my written exam and practical test to earn my private pilot’s license! BHA has helped me transform myself into being the best possible person I can be on the ground and in the air.” -Aiden Fuller SPOTLIGHT “I’m constantly in awe of how much I personally get out of being a mentor and being matched to such a wonderful young woman.” -Ame Yeager, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Monterey Bay
