THE MID-COAST FIRE BRIGADE covers approximately 66 square miles of the rugged and remote Big Sur Coast from Carmel Highlands to the Little Sur River. Our area is listed as a very high/extreme fire hazard severity zone and is listed as a community at risk. All homes in our response area exist in the wildland urban interface. The community’s first fire station was completed in 2011. 16 volunteer firefighters serve the 100% volunteer fire and medical response. We are a 501 c) 3 NonProfit Organization that relies on donations, fundraisers and grants to maintain our station, equipment and firefighter training needs.
