Monterey County Gives! 2025

MONTEREY HISTORY & ART ASSOCIATION Year Founded: 1931 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 3 paid, 60 volunteers Budget: $193,432 (831) 372-2608 montereyhistory.org BIG IDEA: Both artistic treasures and the people who love them appreciate a temperature-controlled environment. Thus the basis of Monterey History & Art Association’s Big Idea: Donations will fund the installation of a new heating, ventilation and air conditioning system in the Stanton Center. The nonprofit needs to provide a consistent and comfortable experience for guests, as well as and a proper environment to preserve MHAA’s art and artifacts, an ongoing challenge from persistent dampness at its waterfront location. “During the last few years, I have witnessed MHAA returning to its glory years of showcasing the expansive cultural history of Monterey at the Stanton Center and beyond. From acquiring the Jo Mora archive, to displaying a significant mural by Emile Norman, to celebrating and collaborating with the National Steinbeck Center and the Italian Heritage Society, the organization is positively reestablishing its place as a cornerstone in the community.” -Peter Hiller MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL Year Founded: 1958 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 11 paid, 150 volunteers Budget: $4,325,457 (831) 373-3366 montereyjazz.org BIG IDEA: The Monterey Jazz Festival is the longest continuously running jazz festival in the world. But that’s not even its Big Idea! This organization offers a suite of educational programs, from the weeklong Summer Jazz Camp at Stevenson School to the selective Regional All-Stars Band and Vocal Ensembles. Students in third through sixth grades at 15 Monterey County schools experience this American music form through Jazz Uplifts!, a program combining concerts with in-class workshops. These classes help fill gaps in K-12 music programming and train and elevate the next generation of jazz musicians. “These performance opportunities inspired me and showed me that the ability to play music as a career is an attainable goal. Being a part of this program has provided me with an idea for my future career and a purpose to pursue for the rest of my life.” -Conor, 17 MONTEREY MUSEUM OF ART Year Founded: 1959 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 24 paid, 31 volunteers Budget: $3,054,177 (831) 372-5477 montereyart.org BIG IDEA: Following the success of its biennial exhibit, Monterey Museum of Art announces the event’s return in 2027. The Monterey Biennial celebrates contemporary artists across Central California, showcasing the museum’s commitment to the artistic voices of our local creative landscape. The inaugural event attracted 800 submissions from contemporary artists in the region, resulting in a final selection of 122 works viewed by thousands of visitors. The Big Idea is to build the Biennial into an inspirational tradition, with the intention to grow beyond its impressive first year. “It was a moment of joy and honor when I heard I would have my photographic artwork included in the inaugural 2025 Monterey Biennial. Seeing my work listed among esteemed local artists was wonderful, an affirmation that my voice and perspective matter within this vibrant arts community.” -Leslie Louden 40 Monterey County GIVES! 2025 mcgives.com ARTS & CULTURE DONATE ONLINE MCGIVES.COM MONTEREY COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY Year Founded: 1933 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 1 paid, 22 volunteers Budget: $180,000 (831) 757-8085 mchsmuseum.com BIG IDEA: The expansive archives and five-acre campus of the Monterey County Historical Society represent the abundant history of this region.
