102 Monterey County GIVES! 2025 mcgives.com groups together to educate the community about increasing understanding, promoting acceptance and reducing prejudice. The National Coalition Building Institute primarily works with local schools to deliver workshops on interpersonal conflict and acceptance. And this Big Idea is facing conflict of its own: cuts to education funding. Donations will help NCBI expand this program to more schools and cover administrative expenses related to administering, organizing, planning and facilitating this established curriculum. “As a teacher who serves on Pacific Grove Unified School District’s Cultural Proficiency Team and as a parent of a PGUSD student, I have found NCBI’s collaboration and expertise in both planning professional development and providing staff training so very valuable. NCBI’s district-wide training of elementary teachers brought together faculty, staff and administrators in incomparable heart-to-heart, human-to-human connection like I have never before seen in this school district on such a large scale. It’s this kind of connection that makes our schools—and communities—safer, more compassionate and empathetic places that build belonging among people of all identity groups.” -Heather Zunguze O’NEILL SEA ODYSSEY Year Founded: 1996 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 10 paid, 30 volunteers Budget: $1,168,243 (831) 475-1561 oneillseaodyssey.org BIG IDEA: The open ocean becomes the ultimate classroom through the O’Neill Sea Odyssey program.
