This was MST’s first time earning the award. The agency used funds to maintain safety, cleanliness, and comfort at bus stops to ensure a welcoming, positive experience for its passengers. With its grant, MST installed a bike workstation and completed painting, repairs and bike rack updates at the Marina Transit Exchange. The award also funded the replacement of 19 bus shelters, plus new trash cans, graffiti removal, bench and curb improvements that included repainting bus benches to a community favorite royal blue and landscaping work at 56 system-wide bus stops. The research will focus on future BRT network feasibility between the Salinas Transit Center and East Alisal area, where many MST passengers begin and end their journeys. As part of the study, the agency will also explore possible relocation of the Salinas Transit Center. Moving closer to high-ridership locations in East Salinas, or closer to downtown, may increase efficiency while improving the customer experience.
