Nestled among redwoods, the Library functions as a social, cultural and artistic hub where artists, writers, musicians and students gather. The Library supports education in the arts and the environment and advocate for preserving Big Sur’s natural and cultural heritage for current and future generations. “Our mattresses are designed to help people wake up refreshed and with reduced pain. They are the favorites of many of the finest local hotel properties. When customers tell me their back or joint issues have eased, or that they have never slept on a more comfortable mattress, that’s what gives this work meaning. Helping promote events is part of our history, we’ve supported our local arts organizations for years because it builds community.” said Brian Gingerich, owner of Monterey Mattress Gingerich-Built. The Henry Miller Memorial Library is a small nonprofit located among the redwoods that serves as a cultural center for the region. It was established to honor the life and work of writer and artist Henry Miller, who spent many years in Big Sur and influenced the creative identity of the area. The Library offers concerts, readings, workshops, exhibits, and community programs that attract both locals and visitors from around the world. Although modest in size, the Library plays a significant role in preserving Big Sur’s artistic legacy. It provides space for creative work, cultural events, and community connection. Many consider it a refuge for expression and a place that captures the spirit of Big Sur. Continued support is essential for the Library to maintain its grounds, offer programming, and keep its doors open to the public. Funds raised through the Bond Ball will help the Library in its participation in Monterey County Gives!, the annual countywide campaign that supports local nonprofits. Donations made before midnight on December 31 qualify for matching opportunities, which increases the impact of each contribution. A link will be provided at the event to make donating easy for anyone who wishes to support the Library’s mission.
