As an illustrator, Sano’s works ranged from book covers to movie posters, annual reports, scientific illustrations and limited-edition prints. Some of his more popular works included the Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi movie poster, the Frank Sinatra commemorative U.S. postal stamp, as well as many editorial pieces for the National Geographic and Scientific American magazines. His works are now hanging at Monterey History and Art at Stanton Center and will remain on display until Oct. 26. Monterey-based Karen Welch, whose work “Raven Moon” is shown above, is a visual arts instructor at the International School of Monterey, where she has been teaching for 20 years. Most of the works in the exhibit capture the Central Coast seascapes. Among other artists-instructors featured in the show are Zach Weston, Valerie-Jean Rivera and Gerard Martin.
