Friday, June 27 THREAD IT Sometimes our favorite garments rip apart or stitches unravel and we cannot wear them anymore. To give your clothes a second chance and learn how to fix them, one can sign-up for “Level Up Your Sewing with Julia,” a hand-sewing class at the Monterey Public Library. Attendees can learn how to thread a needle, knotting threads and basic stitches. They will also create small projects every month. The library hosts monthly events for different ages. The upcoming class is for teens and adults only. Experience isn’t necessary. [CJ] 4:30-6pm Friday, June 27. Monterey Public Library, 625 Pacific St., Monterey. Free. 646-3932, bit.ly/4k3C62P. Building dyed fiber works using oak galls and plant pigments, Gonzalez explores a relation between oak trees and oak apple wasps, combining art and environmental science. Her pieces explore how humans relate to their environment and ask what it means to belong to a place. The above photograph shows 12-oak galls wrapped in cotton and silk dyed with sunflowers and lavender. The artists will demonstrate her craft at 1pm on Saturday, June 28, explaining her process. The exhibit will remain open until Sept. 14. The museum hours are 10am-4pm Wednesdays through Sundays. This joint exhibit shows works by Stephanie Langley and Robert Armstrong. The artists adapt popular subject matters into social narrative that critique assumptions about both nature and culture. “The integration of past and present, the inclusion of extraordinary objects and the juxtaposition of unlike elements, are just a few of the ways the two Monterey County painters conjure the mysteriousness of everyday reality,” Dulz wrote in the press release. The exhibit can be seen Wednesday through Saturday noon to 4pm, or by appointment through July 26. A walkthrough with the artists will be held at 3pm on Saturday, June 28.
