You may examine the file kept Dewitt Clinton Cole Downing, IV Known to his friends as Clinton, he was born in Carmel on August 9, 1948. Later, the family moved to Pebble Beach, where he spent his formative years. Clinton lived a full life with many friends. Clinton worked as a mail clerk at CIG on Garden Road for twenty-five years. After his mother passed away in 1998, he lived in his bungalow on Wave St. Clinton volunteered for the Bing Crosby Golf Tournament, where he served on the communication committee. This experience spurred his lifelong interest in audio equipment. He was a member of the Host Lions Club of Pacific Grove and the Cannery Row Athletic Club. After his retirement, he spent his leisure time on Cannery Row, where he made friendships with many of the shop owners. As a regular at Sly Mc Fly’s, Clinton helped set up the sound systems for many of the bands that played at Sly McFly’s during the early to mid-2000s. Clinton enjoyed photography and approached it with a unique perspective. Among his many talents was his uncanny ability to piece together different pieces of audio equipment. His bungalow was filled with his collection of radios, walkie-talkies, tape players, record players, speakers, and shortwave radios. Clinton was also a fan of all things related to jazz music. He could rattle off the name of the artist of many jazz pieces. He regularly attended the Monterey Jazz Festival. A celebration of Clinton’s life will be held at the Whaling Station Banquet Room on Wave Street on Friday 1/17/25 between 5:30 and 7:30 pm. They say you judge a man not by what he has but by what he gives. Clinton gave joy to his many friends, and our lives are richer because of him. Rest in peace, old friend.
