Marina Youth Arts’ Big Idea harnesses the well-documented creative powers of journaling for students of all ages. The Creative Wellness For Kids Through Journaling and Art initiative helps kids express themselves and build emotional resilience through a mixed-media journaling project. Doodles or paints, poems and stories—anything goes in these therapeutic journals. Donations will also support Marina Youth Arts’ Drama Club and their other community events. “Marina Youth Arts is an amazing asset to the city and is the foundation of the art experience for youth in Marina. My husband and I have supported Marina Youth Arts since its beginning, and through the Marina Foundation we have worked with them on the Festival of Winds, the Labor Day event, as well as other city activities. Visitors and students learn the history of dairy farming or how the water supply works and our place in the sustainability cycle at MCARLM, thanks to accessible, engaging exhibits. This Big Idea is to continue delivering this message, and to capture and share the history of how our abundant natural resources led to today’s successful communities. “MCARLM has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Science camp, fourth-grade Gold Rush jamboree, school field trips and now I get to serve as an intern. The Foundation’s help takes many forms, from providing textbooks to offering emergency assistance to students facing unexpected hardship. Internships through the Foundation help students get clarity on their career goals and build professional networks. The Pacific Grove Public Library Friends and Foundation seeks to highlight this lovely aspect of libraries through its Big Idea. While many programs separate age groups, this new effort will build fresh programs to celebrate shared interests and experiences across generations. This program will build relationships and combat ageism through art therapy and wellness activities like sound baths and therapy dogs. “Pacific Grove Library is the heart of our town and resonates with its residents of all ages. It is a heartwarming sight to see little toddlers buried in books in one nook and senior citizens catching up with news in another.
