For the last eight years, Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre has helped complete the season, providing a local outlet for this beloved holiday tradition. The organization’s Big Idea delivers four performances to nearly 3,000 audience members each December, and helps more than 130 Monterey County students between ages 5 to 18 who are cast members learn Tchaikovsky’s masterpiece— an achievement that takes more than 350 training hours. “Monterey Peninsula Ballet Theatre has had a profound impact on my life, shaping me both artistically and personally. As I step into my senior year at UC Santa Barbara as a dance major, I know that I would not be where I am today without the perseverance and adaptability that MPBT instilled in me; for this I have a deep sense of gratitude.” -Grace Lino, 2018 Sugar Plum Fairy MONTEREY PENINSULA VOICES Year Founded: 1962 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 2 paid, 9 volunteers Budget: $88,500 275-0176 mpvoices.org BIG IDEA: Monterey Peninsula Voices is known for its joyful, themed concerts, like the recent “CommUnity” that featured local dance troupes and artists, and “Stronger Together,” a multi-generational theme highlighting area youth singers. This year’s Big Idea is to stage the group’s annual spring concert with the theme “Mosaic,” a program curating musical experiences from across our region’s multicultural community. Donations also support Monterey Peninsula Voices’ additional activities, including an annual fall concert, July Fourth concerts and the organization’s chamber group, Ambassador Choir. “I rediscovered the joys of singing later in life. As with many members of our choir, my participation in choral music was put aside during career and family-raising years. When I joined Monterey Peninsula Voices my skills were rusty, but I felt welcomed and encouraged to share in a community of song and friendship.” -Sandra Weaver MONTEREY SYMPHONY Year Founded: 1947 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 7 paid, 25 volunteers Budget: $2,500,000 646-8511 montereysymphony.org 34 Monterey County GIVES! 2024 mcgives.com CamerataSingers Christmas with the William McMillan Artistic Director & Conductor 2024 FRIDAY 7:30PM DECEMBER 6 NEW!
