Sunset Cultural Center, San Carlos Street at 9th Avenue, Carmel. Pay what you can. 620-2040, sunsetcenter.org. WINE TIME There’s the joy of sipping wine and then there’s the joy of sipping wine under the guidance of sommelier Jeffrey Birkemeier. The wine expert makes every bottle come alive with context, history and trivia—about the region, about grape growing techniques, about unique bottling practices and more that imbue each wine with its own distinct flavor and aroma and even more importantly, its own story. This class focuses on wines of Spain. From Albariño to Tempranillo, dive in to sip, savor and learn. Small bites accompany the wines to keep the palate fresh. [SR] 5:45-7:30pm Tuesday, Dec. 3. Amapola Kitchen and Wine Merchant, 32 W. Gabilan St., Salinas. $45. 262-0075, amapolakitchenandwine.com. Wednesday, Dec. 4 HEALING ART It’s been a time of anxiety and mourning for many since the election, and local artist/poet Patrice Vecchione has just the prescription for what ails us: collage. She’s leading a one-day workshop entitled “And Still We Rise,” devoted to collage-making and creative writing as an outlet for expression, a valuable form of self-care. Participants will create collages, then spend time writing a response to them. The workshop is for everyone—those who see themselves as artists or writers, and those who don’t. Take a deep breath and let your creative juices flow in an unhurried, supportive environment. [PM] 9:45am-4pm Wednesday, Dec. 4. Haute Enchilada Cafe, Social Club & Gallery, 7902 Moss Landing Road, Moss Landing. $175; includes lunch and supplies. 206-2475 bit. ly/4fCPoSs. Thursday, Dec. 5 WORDS MATTER Do you have something to say? Everyone does, and poet/songwriter Nathan Sadly (real name Ryan Cobar, or for purposes of this workshop, Mr. Ryan) wants to help you figure out how to put your words out there in the form of poetry, song lyrics or spoken word. This “Poets Playlist” workshop is part of a series hosted by Cepanoa Arts, suggested for those ages 12 and up. If you have something in draft form, feel free to bring it along—or just show up and let inspiration come to you. [SR] 5-7pm Thursday, Dec. 5. Artists Ink, 1 Midtown Lane, Salinas. Free. 287-0407, artistsink.org. Hot Picks by Sloan Campi, Erik Chalhoub, Dave Faries, Celia Jiménez, Pam Marino, Agata Pope˛da, Katie Rodriguez, Sara Rubin and David Schmalz.
