Friday, Oct. 11 Kelp and horror Join Kelp Journal for a screening of a short documentary, The World’s Toughest Row, about the all-woman Hericane Rowing team that trekked all the way from Monterey to Hawaii earlier this year in a race called the World’s Toughest Row. The film is followed by the John Carpenter classic horror, The Fog. It’s hosted by Pebble Beach-based Kelp Journal, which publishes twice a year. It accepts ongoing open submissions for fiction, nonfiction and poetry manuscripts and has open and closed submission periods for special projects such as the poetry chapbook competition, surf noir anthology and the Salinas agricultural community high school anthology. Creative Director Moses Pendleton explores this classic on his own terms in the MOMIX: Alice dance show. With props, ropes and their own bodies, dancers showcase how Alice grows and shrinks in the story. Pendleton’s goal isn’t to retell Alice’s story as we know it, but an inspiration to explore and build a new story from it. He will “use it as a taking-off point for invention.
