Thursday, September 5 STAR POWER We at the Weekly are subjected to Features Editor Dave Faries’ thoughts on his favorite subjects every day—golf, cars, football, cats, a meal he had from Chef Jonny Black in 2019, you name it. Now, the public can experience what we all go through every day, at least when it comes to that last item of discussion. Faries will interview Jonny and Monique Black, the Michelin Star restaurateurs of Chez Noir in Carmel, for Mic’d Up at the Press Club. Chez Noir was named a finalist for a James Beard Award as one of the nation’s best new restaurants. The restaurant’s owners will discuss their ingredients for success. PARENTS’ PARTY Sometimes, it takes the whole community to come together to solve big, unwieldy problems. Such is the case with a problem as challenging as opioid addiction and overdoses. The good news is that there is an increasingly organized community doing meaningful work to address it. This event, “Playing it Forward,” is the first-ever benefit for a new nonprofit, Central Coast Overdose Prevention, founded by doctors Reb Close and Casey Grover. The duo has long led the way in developing solutions for opioids, and this organization is the latest chapter. Learn more about what they are doing and how you can help, plus a fun night out—think food, music, ice cream, live caricature art and more. [SR] 6-10pm Thursday, Sept. 5.
