Saturday, August 24 Cop Show It goes without saying (but we’re saying it, anyway) that law enforcement officers do a lot of good for a community. It also goes without saying (yes, doing it again) that Car Week draws a lot of people who just want to bask in the aura of stunning vehicles. So what if you put the two together? And then add food vendors, a kids zone, live music wafting from balconies and a downtown setting? Her new exhibit at the Monterey gallery (260 Alvarado St.) highlights her unique and colorful style. Her paintings reflect the beauty of nature and the symbiotic relationship between plant life and the insect and animal worlds. Hidden among the branches, vines and florals are avian, reptilian and other winged wild beauties. “My vision became focused on exploring abstract expressionism with the inclusion of mixed-media collage,” Russell writes. “As a process painter, I brush on layers of intense color, transparent to opaque, weaving in textures of paper and fabric.” Come to the gallery to experience the wonders of this visual garden of tangled delights.
