With this in mind, the Monterey History and Art Association (MHAA) seeks donations to help support its quest to preserve and share the extensive and essential artifacts of the city’s history. One location begging to be preserved and shared is the historic Doud House Victorian garden. But first, extensive refurbishment is needed including new plantings, new garden borders, and arbor and fence repairs necessary to allow it to be reopened to the public. “Please help MHAA bring one of Monterey’s forgotten gardens back to life! Tucked behind the historic Doud House in the middle of Old Monterey, the garden was once a beautiful and peaceful space, with benches, climbing roses and other plants. Through the years the garden has faded and crumbled. MHAA wants to bring it back to life, so we can all enjoy its beauty and tranquility when visiting the Mayo Hayes O’Donnell Library—another very historic building right next door. Be a part of history and beauty rediscovered.” -Kip Hudson Monterey Jazz Festival Year Founded: 1958 Paid Staff and Volunteers: 10 paid, 147 volunteers Budget: $562,458 (excluding festival budget) 373-3366 montereyjazzfestival.org Big Idea: This all-American art form is in good hands through the youth education programs offered by the Monterey Jazz Festival.
