Partnership for Children identified transportation as a serious barrier for families, and developed a Big Idea transportation program. Each year, Partnership for Children vehicles serve more than 200 children and their families, traveling over 50,000 miles to get young patients to and from medical appointments and treatments. Donors can support this essential service by helping this nonprofit purchase two new vehicles. “Raising two kids with complex medical issues on my own is challenging. They both have so many medical appointments and special needs. I wouldn’t be able to do this on my own. When their mom died unexpectedly just after our daughter was born, I wasn’t sure how I was going to handle everything. The support I’ve received has been a huge help. Partnership for Children gives us rides to all their appointments up in the Bay Area, as well as here locally, along with other supports like rent payment assistance, diapers, food delivery and gifts during the holidays. We’re so grateful.” -William Magnum POWER OVER PARKINSON’S YEAR FOUNDED: 2017 PAID STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS: 1 paid, 30 volunteers BUDGET: $214,000 920-1806 POWEROVERPARKINSONS.ORG BIG IDEA: Power Over Parkinson’s (POP) was created to provide a Parkinson’s-specific program locally to help local patients manage their symptoms. This nonprofit uses research-based practices in a movement and education curriculum focused on improving quality of life and building relationships. Classes are open to anyone diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and are tailored to every individual’s specific level of disease progression. As Parkinson’s ranks as the fastest-growing neurological disease in the world, this Big Idea provides support for a healthier tomorrow. “I can tell you, without hesitation, that the POP program has improved the health, both physical and mental, of every person that participates. All of us here, regardless of where we are on this journey, benefit from our participation at the POP studio.” -Paul Lee SALINAS VALLEY HEALTH FOUNDATION YEAR FOUNDED: 1979 PAID STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS: 9 paid, 28 volunteers BUDGET: $2,115,265 759-1880 SALINASVALLEYHEALTH.COM/SALINAS-VALLEY-HEALTH-FOUNDATION BIG IDEA: Salinas Valley Health Foundation seeks donations to support its Comprehensive Cancer Care 130 Monterey County GIVES! 2023 mcgives.com
